All Exhibitors are cautioned to read carefully the following rules and regulations, as they will be enforced strictly, with no deviation.

  1. This show reserves the right to interpret these rules and regulations and arbitrarily settle and determine all matters, questions and differences arising out of our connection with the show. The officers of this show reserve the right to further amend or add to the general rules set forth in this catalog.
  2. All exhibitors will be under control and direction of the management, but the show committee will in no way be responsible for any exhibit. Each exhibitor will be solely responsible for his own exhibit. Diligent care will be exercised by the management to see that all animals are properly housed and supervised, but no further responsibility will be assumed.
  3. The owner of any animal defaced in any manner while on the show grounds will be barred from the show indefinitely and will forfeit any prize money won or sale money. The animal will revert back to the owner if previously sold by the show.
  4. No claim for injury to any person or to any livestock shall ever be asserted nor suit instituted or maintained against the SandHills Stock Show, or its officers or agents, by or on behalf of any person, firms or corporations, or other agent, representatives, servants or employees, having license or privilege to exhibit at the show or to occupy any space on the show grounds.
  5. All exhibits will be under the control and directions of the management, but the SandHills Stock Show will be in no case responsible for any loss, injury or damage that may occur. Each exhibitor will be solely responsible for any consequential or other loss, injury or damage done to, or occasioned by, or arising from, any animal or article exhibited by him and for its description as give in the premium list. He shall indemnify the SandHills Stock Show against all legal or other proceedings in regards there to, as well as the exhibitor or any of the animals exhibited by him or arising out of, or in any way connected with such exhibition or any of the animals so exhibited.
  6. All exhibitors grant permission to be photographed or interviewed in connection with activities during this show and any such photograph and/or interviews may be used by the show or television, film, video, visual, graphic or printed media. The exhibitors agree to release and indemnify the show with respect to any claims related to the usage of such photographs or interviews by the show or any media.
  7. The management reserves the right to remove from the grounds any exhibitor animal that may be falsely entered or may be deemed unsuitable or objectionable without assigning a reason therefore, and, if necessary, to return any money already paid for space or stall which shall exonerate them from any claim whatsoever on the part of the exhibitor or purchaser.
  8. The showing of unethically fitted livestock is prohibited. Unethical fitting shall be deemed to mean a physical or physiological attempt to alter the natural conformation, musculature or height of an animal by use of injections or ingested material not conducive to the continued health of steers or marketability of steer carcasses.
  9. All Grand and Reserve Champion steers and lambs will be tested for drugs and any other class winners and/or random sampling as proposed by the livestock committee. Blood and body fluids will be withdrawn by licensed veterinaries or personnel of the livestock committee.
  10.  

ENTRY RULES

  1. All entries must be received as a group from the AST or CEA. Only one check per county/chapter will be accepted. All entries must be postmarked by midnight December 1st.
  2. Exhibitors are urged to get their entries in as early as possible. There will be a $30.00 entry fee for each Club Steer and $30.00 entry fee for each junior Breeding Heifer.
  3. No straw or hay bedding allowed. All cattle will be bedded on washed sand. Sheep and goats will be
    bedded on wood shavings.
  4. Entry fee for the Lamb is $20.00 and Goats will be $20.00. No refunds of any entry fees will be made after the closing date for entries.
  5. All animals entered in this show must be the bona fide property of the exhibitor. Any exceptions to this rule must be stated in writing and submitted to the committee for approval. Any premiums awarded in violation of this rule will be subject to forfeit at the discretion of the committee.
  6. No diseased animal will be admitted to the show. Any animal showing symptoms of disease will be refused admission to the show. The superintendent will see that this rule is rigidly enforced.
  7. Any exhibitor found interfering with the judges in any way would forfeit all premium money won in the show.
  8. To be eligible to exhibit in the Steer, Lamb and Goat divisions all Texas animals bust be validated in accordance with the Texas validation program. Texas animals arriving at the show without the official
    Texas Steer, Lamb or Goat tag will not be eligible to show. The State Validation number on the
    official Texas Show tags must be shown on the weight card.
  9. A steer will be disqualified from the show if the steer is being trimmed, fitted or dressed by anyone other than County Extension Agents or Vocational Agriculture Teachers from the state of Texas or other feeders or leaders within the county from which the steer is entered.


CONFLICT OF RULES

In the event of conflict of General and Special Rules the latter will govern. No animal will be allowed to be removed from the show without a written release from the superintendent of that division. Any violation of this rule will forfeit all premiums won in the show. Any exhibit deemed unworthy by the judges will be eliminated from competition and no premiums will be paid to unworthy exhibits. Where no competition exists in a class, the judges will determine the worthiness of the exhibit.

All protest must be filed with the management before classes are judged.

ELIGIBILITY: The goat show is limited to entries from the state of Texas and New Mexico. To be eligible exhibitors must bein the third grade or nine years old and not more than nineteen years old on September 1, 2009. They must be enrolled in private or public elementary or secondary schools (accredited home school programs are acceptable) of Texas or New Mexico and be a bona fide resident of the state during the show dates and proper ownership periods. exhibitors must have continuously fed and cared for the animals under direct supervision of a County Extension Agent or Agriculture Science Teacher.

  1. Each exhibitor is limited to five goats of any breed or crossbreeds in this show. Wether goats only may be shown. Entries must have front two milk teeth in normal position with no permanent teeth showing at the time of weigh-in to be eligible to show. Goats must have been owned and cared for continuously since November 1, 2009.
  2. To be eligible to exhibit in the 2010 Junior Market Goat Show, all goats must be validated in the Texas 4-H or FFA Goat Validation Form Master List completed by the County Goat Validation Committee. New Mexico entries see entry rules.
  3. All general rules apply to the goat show.
  4. Goats may be penned beginning at 2:00 p.m. on Friday January 8, 2010 and all goats must be in place by 5:00 p.m. Friday January 8, 2010. Note: Goats arriving prior to 2:00 p.m. wanting to unload will be assigned a temporary pen (shavings are not furnished for temporary pen) in the horse barn. Releases will be written one hour after the show is completed.
  5. Entry fee will be $20.00 for each entry and no refunds will be made after the closing date (12-1-2009) for receiving entries. Initial bedding with wood shavings will be furnished, any additional bedding wanted by exhibitors will have to be purchased or supplied by exhibitors. Names and social security numbers of exhibitors must be included with entries. Late entries at $40.00 per head will be accepted postmarked by 12-31-2009.
  6. The Goat committee will weigh goats by county/chapter, beginning at 4:30 p.m. on Friday January 8, 2010. Any goat that is not with the county/chapter when their turn comes to weigh-in will be weighed after all counties/chapters are weighed. Scales will close 10 minutes after the last county/chapter called has weighed on Friday January 8, 2010.
  7. Goats will be checked for teeth, hair length & sharp horns at the time of weigh in.
  8. Number of classes will be determined by dividing the number of entries that are weighed-in by 85. Classes will be divided by weight. There will be a 50 pound minimum and no maximum weight.
  9. No paint, powder, or artificial coloring is allowed. Goats must be uniformly shorn to 3/8" or less above the knee and hock joints, goats may have longer hair on the end of the tail. Shearing of goats will be allowed on the grounds, and the hair length will be checked at weigh-in. Horns must be tipped before arrival on show grounds. No sharp points allowed.
  10. Goat show will be at 8:00 A.M. on Saturday January 9, 2010, with release after the completion of the show. Champion and Reserve Champion goat may not be released until after the rodeo on Saturday January 9, and may be required to be available for a parade of Champions during the rodeo.
  11. Exhibitors that have exhibited 2 Grand Champion goats at the Sandhills Stock Show are not allowed to exhibit that specie again.

  13. This is a Premium Show Only. NO goats will be sold in the auction sale. Premium money will be determined by number of entries. Minimum premiums for the following placings have been determined with other premiums to be determined after entries received, with a minimum guaranteed payback of 80% of entry fees.
    • Champion - $2000
    • Reserve Champion - $1000
    • First Place - $200
      Additional Placings determined by entries
  14. Exhibitors are responsible for confining and keeping their animals in the assigned pens. The Sandhills Stock Show will not be held responsible for any animals getting out of the assigned pens. Some goats may need to be tied. Pens are assigned by 4-H of FFA organization according to the number entered from each 4-H or FFA. Pens assignments may be changed depending on number of goats arriving at the show.
  15. No external parasites will be allowed. If goat is found to have external parasites, it will be disqualified and the exhibitor will be asked to remove the goat from the grounds.
  16. Exhibitors will be allowed to use halters or collars in the show ring.
  17. All protests must be accompanied by $250.00. Money will be refunded if protest is sustained. Executive Committee of the Sandhills Stock Show reserves the right to interpret these rules and arbitrarily settle and determine all matters, questions and differences arising from protest.
  18. Any unethical conduct on the part of the exhibitor, parents, CEA or AST, such as interfering with the weighing committee or judge, will bar the exhibitor from present show and future shows.
  19. Showmanship is not sanctioned by J.M.G.S.C. A committee will select exhibitors during judging to return with their goat for showmanship placing by official judge.
  20. Substitute exhibitors may be used for the following reasons:
    • More than one goat showing in the same class
    • Exhibitor is not present and is participating in another U.I.L. sponsored function
    • Exhibitor is medically unable to show, at the discretion of the Livestock Show Vice- President doctor’s written verification may be required
    • Other reasons as approved prior to showing, by goat show Chairman and Livestock Show Vice- President

Exhibition Rules:

1.  The Junior Hereford and Polled Hereford Heifer show is limited to entries from the State of Texas. 2. There will be no limit on the number of 4-H or FFA Heifers from a County or FFA Chapter.

3.  All entries must be exhibited by the owners, except when an exhibitor has more than one entry in one class or cannot be present to show the animal due to a medical condition. In these cases, any other 4-H Club or Vocational Agriculture student taking part in this show may exhibit these animals. Entries must include the name and Social Security number of exhibitor.

4.   Original Certificates of Registration will be required at check in. A LEGIBLE COPY MUST ACCOMPANY THE ENTRY OR IT WILL BE REJECTED.  Registration certificates must be in the exhibitors name by November 1, 2009. Superintendants will check registration certificates at time of entry.

5.  All protests must be in writing and accompanied by $250.00. Money will be refunded is protest is sustained. Such protests must plainly state the cause of the complaint or appeal and must be presented prior to judging of classes. The Executive Committee of the SandHills Stock Show reserves the right to interpret these rules and arbitrarily settle and determine all matters, questions and differences arising from any protest.
NO PROTESTS WILL BE ALLOWED ON OFFICIAL PLACINGS.

EXHIBITION CONDITIONS: 

1.  All entries in the Junior Breeding Heifer Show shall be subject to the General Rules and Regulations, and to special rules of the Junior Livestock Show.

2.  There is no limit to the number of heifers shown by one exhibitor. The heifers must have been registered in the name of the exhibitor by November 1, 2009.  No photocopies, facsimiles, phone calls, emails or letters in place of the original registration certificate.

3.  All entries must be postmarked by December 1, 2009. There will be a $30.00 entry fee charged for each heifer. There will be no refunds on entry fees. All cattle will be bedded on washed sand, no straw, hay or shavings may be used inside the barns for bedding materials. Tie Outs will be available at time of entry for $10 each.

4.  Arrival Time: No arrivals before Noon --  Wednesday January 6, 2010. Must be in the barn by 11:00 am Thursday, January 7, 2010. The Supreme Champion, Reserve Supreme Champion, Both Breed Champions, Reserve Breed Champions, Junior Showmanship and Senior Showmanship exhibitors will be asked to present their heifers in the Parade of Champions at the SanHills Rodeo on Friday evening, January 8, 2010.

REGISTRATION VERIFICATION: Heifer registration papers will be verified during weighing and classifying of the steers. There will be a table set up in the weigh in area, please bring your papers to this location. There will be no need to have the heifer at the paper check in area.

RELEASE TIME: Releases will be available following the posting of the steer sale order in the show office. (Chelli I will be working on trying to get them to let the heifers be released after their show so this could change)

5.  Heifers will be divided into classes according to the listed schedule. Heifers will be divided into breeds, Horned Hereford Classes will begin at 9 am, Friday January 2, 2009 followed by the Polled Hereford Heifer Classes, followed by the Supreme Champion Heifer Drive and the Heifer Showmanship.

6. The Heifer Showmanship contest will be judged while in the ring, the outstanding showmen and women will then be announced after each class and asked to return to for placing by Official following the Supreme Heifer Drive.

7.  Exhibitors my not move to tie-outs between 8:00 am and 5:00 pm on any given day of the show. You may not tie out in West covered arena.

8. One fan will be permitted for each five animals.  (Chelli this need to match the steer rules, whatever Steve turns in for this… match it )

9.  Any un-sportsman like conduct, such as interfering with the judges, etc. will bar the exhibitor from the present and future shows. The decision of the judges is final and not able to be protested.

Exhibitors will be selected during the show and announced after each class and then asked to return to the ring for placing after the Supreme Heifer Drive.

Supreme Champion, Supreme Reserve Champion, Both Breed Champions, Both Reserve Breed Champions, the Jr. Showmanship Winner and Sr. Showmanship Winner will be asked to present their heifers in the Parade of Champions at the Rodeo the evening of the show.

  4. An Auction Sale will be provided for approximately 25 Junior Steers entered in the show and competing for premiums. There will be no charge
    for this Auction Sale. The Grand Champion steer must sell and it is optional with owners of other placing steers as to whether they sell. (Two steers
    limited to any exhibitor). All sale animals will be sold on their official weighin weights.
  5. All protests must be in writing and accompanied by $250.00. Money will be refunded if protest is sustained. Such protests must plainly state the
    cause of complaint or appeal and must be presented prior to judging of classes. The Executive Committee of the SandHills Stock Show reserves the
    right to interpret these rules and arbitrarily settle and determine all matters, questions and differences arising from any protest. NO PROTESTS
    WILL BE ALLOWED ON CLASSIFYING OR OFFICIAL PLACING.
  6. Exhibitors of Grand Champions are not allowed to exhibit that species again.
  7. Drug Testing: Residue Avoidance Program, See Animal Health Regulations; USDA Wholesome Meat Act, residue avoidance program and
    general rules and regulation.

EXHIBITION CONDITIONS:

  1. Each exhibitor is entitled to enter no more than (2) two steers. The calves must exhibit purebred horned or polled Hereford characteristics. The
    entries must have been owned, fed and cared for by the exhibitor from June 30, 2009 to the opening day of the show.
  2. All entries must be postmarked by December 1, 2009. There will be a $30.00 entry fee charged for each steer. There will be no refunds on entry
    fees. All cattle will be bedded on washed sand, no straw, hay or shavings will be allowed in the barns. Tie Outs will be available at time of entry for
    $10 each.
  3. Exhibitors will be prestalled upon arrival and must have their steers on display during the Show at the assigned stalls. Failure to comply with this
    condition will disqualify the Exhibitor. Stall requests will be reviewed at time of entry.
  4. Arrival Time: No arrivals before Noon Wednesday, January 6, 2010. Must be in barn by 11:00 a.m., Thursday, January 7, 2010. Animals will be
    released after sale order is posted.
  5. Weights will be turned in at sift and classifying of Junior Steers beginning at 12:00 noon on Thursday, January 7, 2010. No steer may weigh less than
    850 pounds and no maximum weight. Three person classifying system will be utilized. No protests allowed. Horned Hereford steers will classify first
    followed by polled Hereford steers.
  6. Steers will be divided into classes at the discretion of the superintendent in both horned Hereford and polled Hereford breeds.
  7. After judging of each class is completed, all placing steers will be reweighed before leaving the ring; any steer weighing more/less than 105%
    of weigh-in weight will be disqualified. Steers remaining qualified after weigh-back will advance in placing if steers placed higher have been
    disqualified.
  8. Exhibitors will indicate desire to sell at auction, if eligible, immediately after each class is judged. Steers to be sold out of each class will be
    designated by the committee. These steers will be branded before leaving the show ring. All first and second place steers will be weighed and nose
    printed immediately following judging of their respective class. Steers showing for Champion and Reserve Champion will indicate desire to sell
    after the champions are selected. Grand Champion Steer MUST SELL.
  9. All first and second place steers will be drug tested.
  10. Exhibitors may not move to tie-outs between 8:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m. on any given day of the show. You may not tie out in West covered arena.
  11. One fan will be permitted for each five steers.
  12. Any steer which has previously been made Grand Champion or Reserve Grand Champion in any National, State or Regional show is not eligible to
    compete in the individual classes of this show if an official show sale was offered.
  13. Any un-sportsman like conduct, such as interfering with the sifting committee or judges, will bar the exhibitor from the present and future
    shows. The decisions of the sifting committee and judges are final
  14. Packer bid price will be posted immediately after judging is completed. Any steers not eligible for the Auction will be eligible to sell to the Packer.

  1. Each Exhibitor is limited to four lambs in this show.  Wether lambs only may be shown.  Entries having shed lamb teeth or with permanent teeth in view are not eligible to show.  Lambs must have been owned and fed by the exhibitor since November 1, 2009.
  2. No lambs other than fine-wool breeds will be permitted to show (Rambouillet, Delaine, Debouillet, purebred or high grade with typical body markings for the breed).  No black lambs.  Lambs will be classified in the show ring.
  3. Cut off time for packer lambs is Friday, January 8, 2010, 12:00 noon.
  4. Lambs must be in the barn by 4:00 p.m.  Releases will be written on lambs on Friday, January 8, 2010, after posting of the sale order in the office.  Release tables will be in show barn.
  5. A $20.00 entry fee will be charged for each entry and no refunds will be made after the closing date (December 1) for receiving entries.  Wood shavings will be furnished.  Name and Social Security number of exhibitors must be included with entries.
  6. Exhibitors will weigh their own lambs.  Lamb weights should be turned in as soon as possible and must be turned in by 5:00 p.m. January 7, 2010.
  7. There will be a three (3) pound weigh back on the top of the class.  Any lamb weighing three pounds over the top of the class will be disqualified.  Scales will be furnished.
  8. The Classes will be as follows:

Class I

97 pounds and under

Class II

98 pounds - 104 pounds

Class III

105 pounds - 112 pounds

Class IV

113 pounds - 120 pounds

Class V

121 pounds and over

80 pound minimum, no maximum weight

  1. Lambs must be shorn slick with a uniform length of fleece.  Boots may be left on lambs.
  2. Any animal which has previously been made Grand or Reserve Champion in any National, State or Regional show is not eligible to compete in the individual classes of this show.  Exhibitors of Grand Champions are not allowed to exhibit that specie again.

Five lambs from each class (total 25) will be sold in the auction sale.  Exhibitors will indicate desire to sell if eligible, immediately after each class is judged.  The five lambs will be paint branded before leaving the show ring.  Lambs showing for Champion and Reserve Champion will indicate desire to sell after Champions are picked.  The Champion lamb must sell and it is optional with owners or other placing lambs as to whether they sell.  All lambs will be sold on their class weights.  SUBSTITUTE EXHIBITORS WILL BE ALLOWED THROUGH THE SALE WITH EARLY NOTIFICATION TO THE LAMB CHAIRMAN.  ANY EXHIBITOR THAT IS NOT PRESENT FOR THE SALE OR DOES NOT HAVE AN ELIGIBLE EXHIBITOR DESIGNATED TO TAKE THE LAMB THROUGH THE SALE WILL RECEIVE PACKER VALUE ONLY FOR THAT LAMB.
  5. All protests must be accompanied by $100.00.  Money will be refunded if protest is sustained.  The Executive Committee of the SandHills Stock Show reserves the right to interpret these rules and arbitrarily settle and determine all matters, questions and difference arising from any protest.
  6. Any unethical conduct on the part of the exhibitor, parents, CEA or AST, such as interfering with the weighing committee or judge, will bar the exhibitor from present and future shows.
  7. To be eligible to exhibit in the 2010 Junior Marker Lamb Show, all lambs must be validated in the Texas 4-H or FFA Lamb Validation Form Master List completed by the County Lamb Validation Committee.  New Mexico entries see entry rules.

Finewool Breed Characteristics

  1. Acceptable Breed Characteristics
    1. Rambouillet, Delaine, Debouillet or a cross between these breeds.
    2. Soft pelt with 64’s or finer wool (22 microns or less).
    3. Silky, white face that is narrow and clean cut.
    4. Silky ears that are medium to moderate in size.
    5. White hooves and legs.
    6. Horns may be present or absent.
  2. Discriminatory Breed Characteristics
    1. Black or brown spots in the skin or wool on the body of the lamb.
    2. Freckles or pigmented areas of black or brown skin may be permitted on the face or ears if other breed characteristics are in order.
    3. Black or brown freckles above the hooves in the hairline may be permitted if other breed characteristics are in order.
    4. Black pigmentation in the hooves.
    5. Black eyelashes may be permitted if other breed characteristics are in order.
  3. Absolute Disqualification
    1. Course, chalky, white hair on the face, down the back of the hind leg and in the flanks.
    2. Black lambs should be shown as medium wool.
    3. Steep hip or tendency to show the callipyge gene.
    4. Surgical alterations other than redocking.
    5. Harsh, course pelt.
